Date and Place of Birth: Christmas Day, Mofolo North, Soweto
Education: BSc degree in applied physics and electronics engineering from Hampton University, Virginia, US
First Job: Siemens Telecommunications, 1994
Career History Prior to Current Position: I did a three-year stint in St Croix, in the Caribbean, after securing a position at Transducer Technologies, in the US Virgin Islands. I returned to South Africa in 1993 and spent 17 years, from 1994, at Siemens Telecommunications and later at Nokia-Siemens Networks, during which period I became involved in the South African Communications Forum and became a ZA Domain Name Authority board member, prior to joining ZACR

Value of Assets under Your Control: The real assets under my control are co.za, web.za, org.za, net.za and the cTLDs of .capetown, .joburg and .durban
Management Style: I like to harness the best from my staff by adopting a collaborative approach
Personal Best Achievement: There have been many personal achievements I am proud of, ranging from completing a degree in the US to getting married and becoming the father to my children
Professional Best Achievement: There have been a few, but the ones that stand out are moving to the US to study applied physics and being part of a team that was responsible for the design of a community payphone that we launched in the mid-1990s
Person Who Has Had the Biggest Influence on Your Life: My mother, whom I still find myself talking to, even though she has since passed on
Person Who Has Had the Biggest Influence on Your Career: Pete da Silva, former CEO of Siemens, whom I met in 1994. He is now CEO of Jasco
Person You Would Most Like to Meet: I am inspired by uncommon heroes and by everyday people who make a difference and seldom receive recognition
Philosophy of Life: Humility. There is nothing better than to prepare the ground for others to walk on, while acknowledging that you simply cannot take anything with you
Biggest Ever Opportunity: Living in the Caribbean and doing great work while feeling like everyday was a holiday
Biggest Ever Disappointment: The sense of loss one feels as a result of the death of a loved one
Hope for the Future: That I help grow the number of .ZA domains from one-million to two-million in the next several years and that every South African citizen is allocated his or her own domain name – his or her unique space on the Web – on receiving an identity number

Favourite TV Programme: I watch the TV programmes that deliver useful information at a certain time

Favourite Website: www.registry.net.za
Hobbies: Gardening and mountain biking
