JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Australia-based Lucapa Diamond Company is preparing the Lulo mine, in Angola, for even large recoveries by installing XRT technology.

Lucapa reported on Wednesday that the Lulo mine, which the miner owns in a partnership with State-owned Endiama and Rosas & Petalas, had started commissioning the modules for the new XRT processing and recovery stream.

The XRT technology and larger screens (55 mm) would, as part of the 150 t/h diamond plant, provide capacity to recover individual diamonds of up to 1 100 ct.

Lulo has already delivered six diamonds weighing more than 100 ct and yielded a record 404 ct diamond in February. Following the discovering that diamond, the Lulo mine partners secured the XRT module and started stockpiling oversized material. The stockpile of 19 000 bulk cubic metres will be processed through the new XRT stream over time, in batches separate to ongoing oversize material recovered and processed from daily mining activities.
