WSP appoints Africa MD following Parsons Brinckerhoff buyout
Following its acquisition of planning, engineering and programme and construction management company Parsons Brinckerhoff, construction company WSP has appointed Mathieu du Plooy as MD in Africa for the enlarged company, effective March 1.
WSP acquired Parsons Brinckerhoff at the end of last year for $1.31-billion.
Du Plooy, who had been WSP Africa’s MD since 2010, said he was excited about the future of the company in Africa.
“Our businesses’ complementary skill sets and offering on the continent mean that we will be able to provide our clients with an even wider set of services, with the same trusted expertise and passionate professionalism they have come to expect when dealing with WSP and Parsons Brinckerhoff.”
Further, he noted that this created “even greater opportunities” for employees to work on “exciting and challenging” projects, with world-class teams of experts.
“For our clients, this means best of class, innovative solutions that will help to ensure the delivery of sustainable projects on a continent that offers abundant opportunity for growth,” Du Plooy stated.
Former Parsons Brinckerhoff Africa MD and Institution of Mechanical Engineers fellow Ian Maclean would now serve as UK MD for energy and industry, bringing together the former WSP industrial engineering discipline and Parsons Brinckerhoff’s power and energy arm.
Maclean would continue his involvement with South Africa through his responsibility for parastatal Eskom’s R105-billion Medupi project, in Lephalale.
