President Jacob Zuma’s move to foist an unworkable, and unfunded, higher education funding plan on the National Treasury is yet one more sign that he is willing to drive a bus through any institution standing in the way of his toxic political project, which combines power with patronage and enrichment. December is, surely, an opportunity for African National Congress members to put on the brakes once and for all and to position a more responsible driver behind the wheel.
