It’s never too late to reach for the stars…just ask Wentworth local and Engen employee, Tina Griffiths.

A proud mother of three daughters, including a set of twins, and a grandmother of two, Tina recently graduated with a B.Tech degree in Human Resources at the age of 50.

“Reach for the stars, and don’t let anyone or anything get in your way or stop you from accomplishing your dreams,” says Tina, who has worked at the Engen Refinery for 18 years.

For Tina, Women’s Month is about believing in yourself and encouraging other women to accomplish their goals and dreams.

“The world is going to judge you no matter what. So, live your life the way you want to,” she states emphatically.

When she feels over-whelmed or needs to feel more grounded, Tina takes a gentle walk and listens to music to helps her gather her thoughts.

“Someone once asked me why I love music so much?  It’s because it’s the one thing that you can always rely on, it’s always there.”

Confessing to watching TikTok (for its motivational videos, of course!), Tina says never expect anything and you will never be disappointed.

“That's my philosophy and to keep climbing and shinning. God is watching over his people.”

As the Engen Refinery Call Centre and Administrative Supervisor, and lately also seconded to the Stakeholder Synergies team, Tina is passionate about the environment and giving back to those in need.

“I have enjoyed working on numerous Engen social investment and community upliftment projects, which have focused on increasing food security and greening initiatives.

“At Engen, we always have several community-based initiatives and projects on the go in the South Durban Basin which I am very proud to be a part of.”

For Engen, Women’s Month is poignant time to acknowledge the talent and loyalty of women such as Tina Griffiths.

As a company, Engen champions the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 5 – Gender Equality, which aims to end gender inequality through actions that eliminate discrimination that curtail women’s rights in both the private and public spheres.

Engen is keenly aware that equality is everybody’s business, and that it owes it to its employees, customers, and broader society to make every effort to drive positive change.

Engen congratulates Tina for her successful career, for her incredible recent academic achievement, and for everything else she has achieved in her life, and salutes her and all the women of South Africa.
