Name of the Project
West Islay Tidal Energy Park project.

Location
The project is located off the coast of the Scottish island of Islay in Argyll and Bute.

The site occupies an area of about 8 km2. The tidal resource around this part of the Scottish coast is substantial, with flows approaching 15 km/h as the water from the Atlantic flows in and out of the northern part of the Irish Sea. This, combined with the flat seabed across the site, with water depths of 35 m to 50 m, make it suitable for deployment of tidal turbines.

Client
The project is a joint venture between DP Energy and its partners Bluepower NV (a partnership between DEME Blue Energy and utility investor Nuhma).

Project Description
The project proposes to build one of the world’s first commercial-scale tidal energy parks. The tidal array will comprise up to 30 tidal turbines for a total capacity of 30 MW.
