The Workplace and Incubation Programme of Empowerment Through Training (MRTT) assists learners by giving them an opportunity to improve their skills and build their confidence for the workplace. The programme runs for a period of 4 months where learners are placed in the working environment to strengthen their skill.

Through the Workplace and Incubation Programme MRTT has built a network of partnerships with companies such as Hydra-Arc where MRTT learners have been received as part of learners’ work placement training. Hydra-Arc did not just afford these learners an opportunity to sharpen their skills but has also been employing the learners since 2016. The most recent group that the company has employed has signed their contracts in February 2022. This indeed shows that MRTT provides its learners with an employable skill through its training.

The former MRTT learners who are now Hydra Arc’s electricians, carpenters, bricklayers and chefs are grateful for the opportunity they had, to have trained with MRTT which has paved their way to where they are today.

“We have gained more knowledge and exposure; we are now confident in what we do. We can be taken anywhere and we will excellently deliver. We are not just good at what we do but we are now income generators, and we can provide for our families,” says the young employees of Hydra Arc.

“Because of MRTT Hospitality and Tourism Academy we have become confident in the kitchen, we now know how to cook for big groups. We confidently recommend MRTT to aspiring learners who would love to pursue careers in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry” shared the two MRTT HTA trained chefs.

When asked to advice the current MRTT learners they said, “we advise the learners to commit themselves and not to take such an opportunity for granted. If the training offers stipend, no matter how little the stipend may be, learners must appreciate that and work hard”.
