WBHO subsidiary building tallest residential buildings in Australia
South African construction company WBHO’s Australian subsidiary Probuild Constructions is building the tallest residential buildings in Sydney and Melbourne.
The A$340-million Greenland Centre, in Sydney, is a 235-m-tall residential building with 479 apartments and a 2 000 m2 creative hub.
The company is also building Aurora Melbourne Central, which WBHO MD Paul Foley says is unique, owing to its direct access to the central business district underground rail loop.
“Residents will be able to go directly from their apartments to one of the best shopping precincts and Melbourne’s busiest train station within minutes,” he says.
Aurora’s 92 storeys include 941 residential apartments, three levels of resident facilities, 250 serviced apartments, office suites and retail space.
Foley expects the construction work to create the retail and railway interface with as little disruption to retailers and commuters as possible, but to be a significant challenge.
This $400-million project will be the tallest building undertaken by Probuild to date.
WBHO entered the Australian market in 2001 after acquiring an initial 40% interest in Probuild.
