Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) says its new made-in-South Africa Amarok will be available at dealers at the end of the month.

The new Amarok is assembled at Ford’s Silverton plant, in Pretoria, as part of a global shared production agreement with the US manufacturer.

Sales of the double-cab Amarok have reached 710 units since the vehicle entered the market on March 18.

“We are pleased to be extending the new Amarok range to include the single cab – the workhorse of the range,” says Volkswagen commercial vehicles head Mark Handley.

“The Amarok single cab is a key model for increasing our volumes and market share in the rental and corporate segments, as well as supporting our sub-Saharan Africa growth plan by retailing in key African markets.”

The Amarok single cab will be available with two turbo-diesel engines.

The 2.0 TDI 110 kW has a four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission.

Maximum torque is 350 Nm and the top speed 170 km/h. Fuel consumption is 6.9 l/100 km, states VWSA.

The 2.0 TDI 125 kW derivative has a four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission.

Maximum torque is 405 Nm and the top speed 180 km/h.

Fuel consumption on the 2.0 TDI 125 kW is 6.9 l/100 km. Fuel consumption on the 2.0 TDI 125 kW with 4MOTION is 7.1 l/100 km.

The Amarok single-cab 110 kW derivative comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, a full-size steel spare wheel, height adjustable driver seat, LED headlights and driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags.

Pricing starts at R499 000, VAT included.

The vehicle comes standard with a four-year/120 000 km warranty and a six-year anticorrosion warranty.

The 125 kW models include a three-year/60 000 km Easy Drive service plan.

The service interval on all models is 15 000 km.
