Telecommunications group Vodacom on Thursday reported a 29.2% year-on-year jump in active customers to almost 50-million during the quarter ended June 2012.

The group’s South Africa operations added two-million customers during the three months to June, reaching 31-million, up 7% from the recorded 29-million in the previous quarter.

Vodacom’s international operations, which now accounted for 21% of the group’s service revenue, sustained its 19-million international customers during the period, increasing only 0.4% quarter-on-quarter.

Mobile data revenue internationally increased 150%, to R255 000, while South Africa’s mobile data revenue experienced a 10% increase to R2-million.
