The decline in construction of new tertiary educational establishments has resulted in greater pressure being placed on existing facilities to accommodate the ever increasing number of students registering to study and their need for accommodation. Therefore, additional student accommodation was recently completed at The Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark, and construction group Steffanutti Stocks chose Ocon Bricks for this project.
“Working on projects such as the VUT student accommodation, we seek to obtain good pricing and service from our suppliers. That is why we chose Ocon Brick for the supply of the 1.8 million clay stock bricks that were required to construct the accommodation. Their ability to manufacture large quantities of stock bricks and meet our deadlines, and deliver on schedule is one of the reasons we chose Ocon Brick. Their reliability and customer service is another” said Site Manager for Steffanutti Stocks, Ruan LeClus.
Ocon Brick Sales Consultant, Lucas Steyn said “We do believe we offer a superior service in terms of price, supply, delivery and quality. Ocon Brick has established a good reputation in this regard as well as being noted for our high-level of customer care and after service. We believe we met these criteria on the VUT project”.
The student accommodation at VUT comprised 12 blocks offering a total of 400 bedrooms and construction commenced in 2014 and was completed in March 2016.
The Ocon Brick stock brick range offers characteristics not usually found in other brick offerings such as: fire resistance; superior thermal insulation; low carbon footprint; acoustic properties; low water absorption and ease of handling. The clay semi-face brick is maintenance free and requires no plastering or painting as well as offering longevity, strength and being environmentally friendly.
