JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – JSE-listed Village Main Reef on Friday said an unprotected strike at its Consolidated Murchison (Cons Murch) mine, in Limpopo, had resulted in a stoppage of all gold and antimony production.

Company spokesperson Cheryl Walton told Mining Weekly Online that 134 members of the National Union of Mineworkers had downed tools on Wednesday demanding dividend payouts.

She said the company was currently negotiating with all relevant parties regarding the demand and noted that, so far, no incidents of violence had been reported.

“…management would continue to engage in constructive dialogue with employees, their representatives and other stakeholders with a view to maintaining peace and resolving the strike,” Village said in a statement

The company, however, highlighted that it reserved the right to obtain a court interdict in respect of the unprotected strike.
