Global smart PV and energy storage solutions provider Trina Solar has started delivering modules to the 115 MW Umoyilanga Avondale solar project, in Upington, under a strategic partnership with two Chinese corporations.

Trina’s partnership with China Energy International Group (CEIG) and China Gezhouba Group (CGG) is aimed at contributing to global energy sustainability by deploying innovative solar solutions.

Trina is supplying the Umoyilanga project with 109 968 panels. These NEG21C.20 Vertex N modules have superior efficiency, reliability and levelized cost of energy, Trina states.

The Umoyilanga project will be integrated into existing grid infrastructure and supply an Eskom substation located 32 km away from the site.

“The project represents a step forward in our mission to drive sustainable energy adoption worldwide. Through this collaboration with CEIG and CGG, we are not only addressing immediate energy needs but also laying the foundation for a greener and more resilient future in Africa,” says Trina strategic accounts head Zhao Lei.

In turn, the Umoyilanga project will, once operational, contribute to alleviating South Africa’s power shortage and advance the country’s energy structure towards low carbon and green development, says CEIG GM Hu Yuhong.
