In a move to become a global leader in vacuum solutions, Atlas Copco established Vacuum Technique as a fifth business area on 1st January 2017.

Vacuum solutions originally formed part of Atlas Copco Compressor Technique’s product portfolio. Following the vacuum business’s excellent growth over the past few years on the back of an exceptional product and service offering as well as the acquisition of several respected companies such as Edwards Group and Leybold, Vacuum Technique earned its status as a separate business area.

“Vacuum technology is as big as the compressor business and locally we have not even begun to scratch the surface,” says Willem Brits, Sales Representative for Vacuum Pumps and Systems.  “As a fully-fledged business area we are now better positioned to expand even further in order to deliver turnkey vacuum solutions to our customers across the Southern African region.”

Vacuum Technique’s flagship range, the GHS 350 – 1 900 VSD+ rotary screw vacuum pumps, redefines vacuum technology. Based on the well-known plug-and-play design principles Atlas Copco compressors are renowned for, the GHS VSD+ series is designed by vacuum engineers to deliver peak performance at operating pressures commonly found in industrial applications. With energy savings of up to 50% and a dramatic reduction in lifecycle costs, these highly efficient, intelligent vacuum pumps bring far-reaching innovation in vacuum technology.

Brits confirms that the rotary screw vacuum pump series is being extended. “The new GHS 3 800 – 5 400 VSD+ range will be available globally later this year.”

The GHS VSD+ boasts one of the smallest footprints on the market, no larger than that of a standard pallet. Quiet operation and optimised exhaust gas due to market-leading oil retention reduce environmental impact and contribute to employee well-being.

Vacuum Technique’s fully comprehensive product portfolio also includes the GVS single-stage as well as the small GVD 0.7-28 and the larger GVD 40-275 double-stage oil-sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps; the DZS dry claw vacuum pumps (also available with VSD); the GLS 250-500 rotary piston pump series as well as the new ZRS 250-4200 range of mechanical vacuum booster pumps and ZRS rotary lobe booster pumps.

Atlas Copco single (AWS) and double-stage (AWD) liquid ring pumps with capacities ranging from 200 to 37 500m³/h and vacuum levels down to 30 mbar (a) complete Vacuum Technique’s current product offering.
Armed with this comprehensive product portfolio, Vacuum Technique is able to fully support vacuum requirements across a wide range of industries from aerospace and automotive to food and beverage, glass and even woodworking.

Main markets served include semiconductor and scientific sectors, the oil & gas and chemical & petrochemical industries as well as food packaging (including canning and bottling), refrigeration and paper handling.

“We are extremely excited about the future of Vacuum Technique,” says Sofiane Kerfali, Regional Business Line Manager for Vacuum pumps and systems in Middle East and Africa. “Our world-class quality products and fully comprehensive range positions us to be able to offer customers optimum vacuum solutions. Our product portfolio perfectly complements our ‘customer always first-in-mind’ approach.”

Along with Vacuum Technique, Compressor Technique, Construction Technique, Industrial Technique and Mining and Rock Excavation Technique make up Atlas Copco’s five business areas.
