The Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB) on Tuesday said it would bring a high-level delegation of prominent steel manufacturers and exporters to South Africa to explore areas of cooperation and new business prospects with local companies.

The delegation, which would comprise 18 firms that operate in Turkey’s steel industry, would host a business briefing in Johannesburg on May 27. The delegation would also hold meetings with key Ministries tasked with implementing infrastructure projects and regulating mining activities.

“Our goal is to create mutually beneficial and fruitful business relationships that will build a bridge between the two continents,” CIB chairperson Namık Ekinci said in a statement.

CIP indicated that the iron and steel industry was one of the leading sectors of the Turkish economy, having seen consistent growth since its establishment in the 1920s.

In 2012, Turkey was Europe’s second-largest crude steel producer and ranked eighth in the world ranking of steel-producing countries.

The country is also the seventh-largest steel exporter in the world, exporting to over 180 countries and to all regions of the world. Turkey had particularly established itself as a world leader in the export of reinforcement bars used for construction.
