PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Graphite hopeful Triton Minerals has formed a strategic alliance with diversified critical materials company AMG Mining AG to hunt for graphite opportunities in Mozambique.

The two-year alliance would see the two parties collaborate on the exploration, identification and development of graphite projects in the Ancuabe district, in Mozambique.

“This is a significant partnership for Triton as we move ahead towards graphite production in Mozambique,” said Triton MD and CEO Brad Boyle.

“AMG is highly regarded as one of the world’s leading graphite companies and bring to the partnership a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise in the graphite sector.”

AMG had recently taken the decision to restart its mining activities in the Ancuabe district, and the company’s assets include permitted mining concessions that include a functional graphite producing plant, as well as associated mining and production infrastructure.

Triton’s exploration tenure in Mozambique completely surrounds the AMG mining concession.

A recent scoping study into Triton’s Nicada Hill graphite project estimated that the project could support production of 210 000 t/y of graphite concentrate.

The scoping study was based on a 51-million-tonne indicated resource, grading 12.4% graphitic carbon, for 6.3-million tonnes, and incorporated a 1.8-million-tonne-a-year throughput plant.
