Transnet appoints group ICT head
Parastatal Transnet has appointed Mantsika Matooane as group executive of Enterprise Information Management Systems, a position that will see her leading the information and communications technology (ICT) function across the group from October 1.
Transnet said in a statement that, as head of ICT, Matooane would entrench technology as an integral part of the transport group’s business and ensure that it played a central role in achieving its objectives.
She would also be responsible for ensuring that the company met the highest standards of information technology governance, compliance and risk management in line with the King III codes.
“Innovation and technology is set to play a critical role in the success and implementation of our Market Demand Strategy, especially in ensuring that we use our systems to enhance efficiency – a key element of our strategy,” commented group CE Brian Molefe.
Before joining Transnet, Matooane held management and executive positions at various institutions, including global financial giants Goldman Sachs International and JP Morgan Chase.
Locally, she has worked for Standard Bank and First National Bank, as well as Hollard Insurance, where she was chief information officer.
She holds a doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, in the UK, an MBA from University of Reading Henley Business School, in the UK, and a BSc degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the National University of Lesotho.
With the appointment of Matooane, Transnet has met its target of a 50% gender split at executive committee level.
