State-owned Transnet has appointed Siyabonga Gama as acting CE, effective immediately.

This followed Brian Molefe’s secondment as acting CE of power utility Eskom.

Gama was CE of Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and was the longest-serving member of the executive team, being active since 1994.

“As CE of TFR, he has transformed the operating division from yearly losses averaging R21-million in 2005 to R5.1-billion profit in the last financial year,” Transnet said in a statement, adding that he had also been the first CE of the National Ports Authority, besides other roles at Transnet.

“He is an experienced and highly regarded executive, both within and outside Transnet,” the group said.
