Since the launch of asset management and consumer solutions provider QCIC’s vehicle tracking device the QIC-SUR in June 2012, the company has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the market, says QCIC director Brian McKenzie.

“The device has proved to be particularly popular for automotive insurance use, stolen vehicle recovery, vehicle finance and auto rental applications,” explains McKenzie.

The QIC-SUR is designed to ensure easy and reliable installation in all types of motor vehicles and is the ideal solution for all automotive tracking applications where an internal backup battery is required.

McKenzie explains that the QIC-SUR incorporates next-generation, super-sensitive global positioning system (GPS) technology on global system for mobile communication/general packet radio service (GSM/GPRS) cellular networks for installation in any 12 V or 24 V mobile vehicle.

“Entry-level fleets that include sales representatives, delivery vehicles, courier services, maintenance vehicles and even private individuals that require more than a dormant recovery device with no added functionality can benefit from the added value that the QIC-SUR offers,” he adds.

McKenzie indicates that superior internal antennas, for both cellular and GPS connections, eliminate the need for wired antennas, therefore ensuring that the QIC-SUR device is mountable almost anywhere in the vehicle to ensure a user-friendly and inexpensive installation.

“Messages are transported on the GSM/GPRS network using the enhanced short message service or user datagram protocol messaging to create a reliable 24/7 communications link between the device and the application servers. This ensures near-real-time activity reports via a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone,” he adds.

These reports include areas visited, speed reports and trip reports coupled with accurate mileage.

In addition to its superior GPS performance, the QIC-SUR also boasts an internal 200 mAh backup battery and inputs/outputs (I/Os) for panic buttons and other accessories.

Further, the QIC-SUR employs QCIC’s industry leading on-board Programmable Event Generator (PEG) alert engine, which monitors external conditions and supports customer-defined threshold conditions related to time, date, location, geozone, input and other event combinations, explains McKenzie.

“These exception-based rules can be programmed by QCIC at a customer’s facility, or over the air once the unit has been fielded to meet the needs of a specific application, no matter how demanding it may be,” McKenzie continues.

The QIC-SUR also leverages QCIC’s industry -leading over-the-air device management and maintenance programming, updates and logistics system, which allows configuration parameters, PEG rules and firmware to be updated over the air.

Looking to the future, McKenzie is optimistic of continued success.

“Vehicle tracking is becomingly increasingly important, and the QIC-SUR is a highly effective solution that is affordable for businesses with small budgets. In order to make the QIC-SUR more easily accessible, QCIC provides the market with three purchase options, namely cash, rental and free fitment rental options,” he concludes.
