It is no longer possible to conceive of a sporting event such as this one, which has captured the hearts and minds of billions of people around the globe, without software, Internet, digital cameras and high-speed networks to ensure data exchange.
Consequently, three years ago, Fifa and the national organising team behind the 2006 Fifa World Cup Germany started developing and implementing plans for a modern IT and communications platform together with its partners such as T-Systems and T-Com.
