Established in 1972 as a joint venture between petrochemicals majors Sasol and Total, bituminous products manufacturer, supplier and applicator Tosas has been supplying high- quality bituminous products across Southern Africa for more than four decades.

The company specialises in the modification of bitumen and produces and manufactures most types of modified binders and emulsions that are used by roads industry stakeholders. With a fleet of more than 30 modern bitumen distributors and haulers, as well as 13 mobile bitumen rubber and polymer- modified bitumen modification plants, Tosas’s production capacity is more than eight times the maximum capacity required by its exclusive shareholder, integrated road construction and rehabilitation company Raubex.

Since being acquired by Raubex in 2013, Tosas started retraining its staff and realigning its services to ensure that it delivered the most professional service possible to all potential customers.

The company also constantly strives to improve its range of products, as well as the services it renders and the quotations it provides. As such, Tosas is South African Bureau of Standards-certified and, as a consumer of more than 20 000 t of penetration-grade bitumen, is a proud Category A member of the Southern African Bitumen Association. The company is also ISO 14001- and OSH 18001-certified.

Tosas saw a turnover of R696-million in the 2014/15 financial year and boasts an order book value of about R400-million and a net asset value of R93-million. The company’s 10 000 m² facilities comprise its head office, at 12 Commercial road, in Wadeville, Germiston, and branches in the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape, Botswana and Namibia. Tosas has a staff complement of 210.
