Name of the Project
Tororo solar photovoltaic (PV) project.

Location
Uganda.

Client
The plant is majority-owned by Building Energy, which will be responsible for its construction and operation; it is also the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, as well as operation and maintenance contractor for this project.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a 10 MW (14 GWh/y) solar PV project.

The solar plant will serve about 36 200 people and will avoid greenhouse-gas emissions at a rate of 7 400 t of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Jobs to be Created
The project will create 250 jobs during the construction phase, and eight local jobs during the operational phase.

Value
The project is estimated at $19.6-million.

Duration
Construction on the project started in December 2016 and is expected to take seven months to complete.

Latest Developments
The project reached financial close in December 2016.
