The journey to the top for many of the country’s prodigiously talented young footballers is set to continue following the draw for the eagerly anticipated Engen Champ of Champs on Tuesday, 20 September 2016. The Engen Champ of Champs, which pits the five regional Engen Knockout Challenge winners and host club Supersport United against each other, takes place at the University of Pretoria from Friday, 07 September to Sunday, 09 September 2016.
Football luminaries from Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Roo Stars from Bloemfontein, and the management of the host club SuperSport United were on hand at the draw in Johannesburg to rub shoulders with the who’s who of the media and the competitions’ sponsors Engen.
The draw revealed a number of interesting match-ups for the first round on Friday, 07 September. Top of the list is the game between hosts SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates. Both Pirates and United will be keen to start the tournament with a positive result.
New-comers Roo Stars kick-off their Engen Champ of Champs challenge with an opening game against Cape Town regional Engen Knockout Challenge champions, Old Mutual Academy. Umquele High School, another team making their Engen Champ of Champs debut and champions of the Durban leg of the Engen Knockout Challenge, face-off against Chippa United, the Port Elizabeth champions.
Brad Bergh, Engen Group Sponsorship Manager says the company is happy to celebrate the 13th edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge, and the third edition Engen Champ of Champs. “It is important for us at Engen to reinforce our support for youth football and the development of young talent. We are proud to know that the journey to the top for many aspiring young football players started at the Engen Knockout Challenge 13 years ago and we are humbled to have played a role in helping these players reach the highest level of professional football both at home and abroad,” says Bergh.
“I urge these young aspiring players to use this platform, Your Journey Starts Here,” he adds.
