Name of the Project
Tokwe Mukosi dam project.

Location
Zimbabwe.

Client
Zimbabwe National Water Authority, a wholly government-owned entity tasked with managing the country’s water resources.

Project Description
The Tokwe Mukosi dam rises 90 m above its foundation and is the highest in Zimbabwe. It is also the largest artificial lake in the country.

It has a capacity of 1.8-billion cubic metres and the artificial basin is more than 40 km long.

The intake structure comprises a 35-m-high tower with grilles, which direct the water to a 6-m-diameter tunnel, with a 350-m-long left bank, a regulation tower and closing sluices.

The release of the water into the river bed takes place through two 2-m-diameter pipes. There are two spillway overflows on the left and right banks, with a 6-m-diameter drainage tunnel about 200 m long.

Plans are under way for an 8 km access road and a stone and concrete cofferdam, 20 m high and 133 m long, at the crown.

Five saddle dams on the right bank complete the project.
