Tinder for jobs matches job seekers with employers

An application (app) to help employers find the right staff and to help job seekers find work, is now available in South Africa.

The app aims to disrupt the market by cutting out several steps in the standard job application route. It automates the linking of candidates with prospective employers and aims to fast-track the short-list and interview processes.

Using the MrEmploy app, a job seeker creates a profile which includes a standardised micro curriculum vitae (CV), a photograph and a 15-second video. Candidates see only the jobs for which they qualify and can give a ‘thumbs-up’ to the positions that are of interest. The prospective employer receives a notification and is then able to scan the job seeker’s profile and view the related video.

The developers of the app believe that the video feature is a particularly useful tool for employers to assess whether the candidate will fit the culture and requirements of the business. At the same time, the developers state, it gives the job seeker an opportunity to create a good first impression.

The information provided by the app aims to enable employers to decide whether to meet with a candidate. It has the potential to save time that  employers would have spent sifting through CVs, conducting telephonic interviews, or face-to-face meetings.

The app is aimed at businesses of any size in the retail, services, food, sales and entertainment industries. It can also be used by the human resources departments of larger companies and by personnel recruitment agencies. It particularly targets young job seekers with access to smartphones.

The system considers factors such as language, location, transport, gender and salary and assigns a score based on the relevant requirements. Applicants are able to select up to five positions at a time and there has to be a mutual ‘thumbs up’ by both the applicant and employer, for a match to be created. The profile is removed once an applicant finds a position or a position is filled.

There is currently no cost for job seekers to create a profile, however employers pay a fee per job advertised on the portal. The technology is seen as a way of streamlining and fast-tracking traditional recruitment systems, rather than competing directly with existing employment agencies.

The app can be downloaded from an app store or at www.MrEmploy.com
