Timber iQ  (0.47 MB)

Timber iQ – Design & Construction, a foremost South African trade publication dedicated to promoting timber in design and construction, will be showcasing the best in South African timber frame building in its upcoming June/July issue.

To bring well-rounded, timber-infused content to its readers, each issue of Timber iQ is shaped and inspired by current trends and industry events. The June/July issue bears no exception and will highlight all the winning projects of this year’s Institute of Timber Frame Builders’ (ITFB) annual awards in another exciting ITFB issue.

Billy Perrin, Publisher at Trademax Publications, comments, “We are now in our third year of partnering with the ITFB to bring these top-class winning projects to our readers, who are inspired to build with timber when they see these ideas come to life at the hands of talented South African designers and builders.” Timber iQ and the ITFB harnessed the power of collaboration two years ago when they finalised their media partnership, which came into being because of their shared vision to see the rise and success of the timber frame building and allied industries in South Africa.

Werner Slabbert, President of the ITFB, and keen advocate for building with timber, says, “The future of environmentally friendly housing will come about through building homes with timber. Timber is a renewable resource, and a well-planned timber home could easily achieve a negative carbon footprint as far as the structure is concerned. More and more people are realising the value of timber structures and are constructing timber homes as their primary residence, as opposed to utilising timber to build only their prized holiday homes.”

“The ITFB is currently recognised as the only accredited institution qualified to control timber construction in the local built environment. Banking institutions, building inspectorates and insurance institutions all recognise the ITFB for its ‘Seal of Controlled Quality,’ and frequently require the ITFB to conduct controlled building inspections of timber frame structures,” he says, adding, “Our media partnership with Timber iQ has helped enhance and advance the image of timber frame building in South Africa, and we look forward to showcasing many more beautiful timber frame projects in this unique South African title.” Perrin concludes, “It is a shared goal of ours to promote the use of timber in construction, and a pleasure for us to be a part of celebrating excellence in this field.”  The ITFB awards evening takes place at D’Aria Wine Estate in Durbanville, Cape Town on the 15th of May 2014.
