JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed coal mining company Thungela Resources has announced the passing of Thero Setiloane, who served as an independent nonexecutive director of the company.

“His contribution to the group, his in-depth knowledge of the mining sector, and his warm personality will be missed,” Thungela stated in a Stock Exchange News Services announcement on Thursday.

Setiloane also chaired Thungela’s social, ethics and transformation committee, and was a member of the audit and health, safety, environment and risk committees.

He is also a former executive VP business sustainability at AngloGold Ashanti, served as a nonexecutive director at Foskor, was CEO of Business Leadership South Africa, and is a former chairperson of the Agricultural Research Council, Rand Refinery, Nuclear Fuels Corporation of South Africa, and Swiss Re Africa.
