Company Announcement - The Tobeka Madiba Zuma Foundation alongside its partners Sanofi South Africa and the KZN Department of Health formally handed over the Manxili Clinic on 05 September 2015. The clinic which was unveiled by President Zuma and the three stakeholders comprises of an integrated TB and HIV clinic referred to as the Wellness Centre and the Primary Health Care, is situated in the deep rural KwaZulu Natal.

Among other dignitaries, the event was graced by the presence of President Jacob Zuma, Dep Min. of Health Dr Joe Phaahla, KZN MEC for Health Dr Dlomo, HOD Dr Mtshali, Mayor of Nquthu Local Municipality Ms Mthethwa; Umzinyathi District Mayor Mr Molefe; Councillors; Sanofi Vice President of Public Affairs Mr Hugues; UNAIDS Eastern Southern Regional Dr Sheila Tlou representing the UNAIDS Executive Director Mr Michel Sidibe, UNAIDS Country Director Dr Erasmus Morah; Inkosi Ngcobo and Amakhosi from the Royal Household; Reverend Mkhize & Members of the Media;

President Zuma thanked First Lady Tobeka Zuma and her Team for working tirelessly assisting the government of the day to deliver on its promise, one being to focus on women’s health and channelling the kind assistance of her foundation to the rural communities. He went further to thank KZN MEC for Health Dr Dlomo and Sanofi Aventis for joining forces with the TMZ Foundation. Dr Sheila Tlou thanked and praised Madam Zuma for her leadership she has displayed not only locally but in Africa and Internationally, directed toward saving lives and creating access to healthcare and through health education even in the most remote parts of South Africa. Sanofi Vice President Public Affairs Mr Hugues thanked Madam Zuma for the great partnership since 2010. He said that he was very excited to see the project coming to fruition, thanking all their teams who had been working hard and was happy to see the people of Manxili so overjoyed. Dr Dlomo speaking on behalf the Dept of Health said that people should not thank him but the First Lady, for paving and showing his department the way. He went further to say that if it had been according to the government’s plan, there would have been no be Manxili Clinic. Madam Zuma speaking, said that she could not contain her excitement and thanked everyone involved. She called on the Manxili Community to take ownership and advantage of the screening services the clinics had to offer them so that the largely preventable diseases could be detected early and their lives saved.

The 13 500 people from the community of Manxili, braved the cold weather to go and receive their clinic. They were overjoyed and deeply appreciated the gesture from their First Lady Tobeka Zuma and her partners who identified their area as an area in need of additional assistance during consultations with the Umzinyathi District Health Department. They were entertained by Abafana BakaMgqumeni, Mfiliseni Magubane, Sanofi Choir and Lady D Khoza of Ukhozi FM.

The purpose of initiating the Manxili Project that was aligned to the Government’s key objectives. Prior to the building and opening of this clinic, members of the Manxili community had to rely on a mobile clinic or make the arduous journey to the nearest health care centre in Nquthu.
