Company Announcement - We are privileged & extremely proud to announce that the STPP is now a United Nations World Tourism Organization Affiliate Member. The Sustainable Tourism Partnership Programme’s application for Affiliate Membership to the UNWTO has been approved by the Executive Council at its 99th session, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, 1-4 October 2014. Final ratification will follow at the next General Assembly to be held in September 2015 in Medellin, Colombia.
The STPP is one of the first private sector organisations in South Africa to have received this prestigious membership. It is also the first such application approved and presented by Honourable Minister Hanekom, the new Minister of Tourism.
To celebrate this, as well as the launch of the STPPs Resource Efficiency Programme in partnership with the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa, Evolve and Nedbank, the STPP will hold its annual Patron and Partner Event at the University of Johannesburg School of Tourism and Hospitality on 22 October 2014. The Resource Efficiency Programme is one of a kind and provides innovative technology and finance solutions to drive adoption of efficient business practices amongst tourism businesses, thus contributing to a more sustainable industry and more sustainable jobs. The STPP will also announce a number of key partnerships formed during 2014, which is set to pro-actively drive Sustainable and Responsible Tourism across South Africa.
The STPP is a non-profit company established to facilitate the implementation of Sustainable Tourism Practices in Smaller Accommodation Establishments , Smaller Tourism and Hospitality Businesses and Communities across South Africa. The STPPs approach is to drive mass scale change across the industry by working with local, regional, provincial and national public and private stakeholders to form strong collaborative partnerships. The STPPs programmes are aimed at delivering mind-set changes, training, education, upskilling and practical solutions that assist the smaller tourism sector to overcome barriers to sustainable growth and development. The STPP works through extensive networks and partnerships to influence change from the top down and the bottom up. The programme offers a variety of interventions towards achieving its vision of becoming the most impactful mass sustainable tourism implementation programme, as illustrated below
