The Aluminium Federation of South Africa (AFSA), is pleased to announce the appointment of Muzi Manzi as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 August 2018 following the resignation of Mark Krieg in March 2018.

Chairman David Mertens commented: “I’m delighted to announce Muzi Manzi’s appointment.  After a thorough search process the Board came to the unanimous conclusion that Muzi is best equipped to succeed Mark in leading AFSA into the future.

Muzi has a qualification in Metallurgical Engineering and is currently enrolled for a MBA, has extensive aluminium industry specific experience, especially in, both policy development and stakeholder engagement.  He has also achieved notable success within the Metals Desk of the Department of Trade and Industry.  He has been instrumental in supporting South Africa’s Aluminium Agenda.  He joins AFSA at a time when the Department of Science and Technology and the CSIR together with the Aluminium Industry have concluded and launched the South African Aluminium Industry Roadmap (SAAIR) and handed it to AFSA to champion its implementation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark on behalf of Exco and the entire AFSA membership for his decisive leadership that has served AFSA well.  AFSA will benefit from a seamless transition as we continue on the growth path currently underway.”

Muzi commented:  “I thank the AFSA Exco for their confidence in me. With the support of the team, we are well placed to continue to deliver on our strategic growth objectives to our existing and future members through the Roadmap. It is also an opportunity to define an aluminium future for this country that elevates the downstream industry, in this challenging global environment.”
