Tenova to supply bag filters to Richards Bay Port Terminal
State-owned freight logistics group Transnet has awarded integrated solutions provider Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa a contract for the supply of three reverse-pulse bag filters.
Two of the filters would be installed on multiproduct rail tipplers and one on a bottom discharge rail application at the Richards Bay Port Terminal.
The filter on the bottom discharge would be installed by the end of October, while those on the rotary tipplers would be installed by the end of January.
The contract was awarded based on advanced reverse-pulse bag filter technology developed in-house by Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa’s trading division, Tenova Takraf Africa, which would execute the contract.
The bag filters, which are capable of operating 24 hours a day, would handle between 90 m3/s and 100 m3/s of air, guaranteeing an emission rate that would meet the requirements of the Air Quality Act.
The fast-track project was being carried out in a brownfield environment with ongoing tipping throughout the installation period, Tenova said, stating that minimum downtime would be allowed for the tie-in of the systems.
“While this is the first contract for air pollution control technology to be awarded to Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa by Transnet, the group’s air-pollution control technology has been widely applied at Richards Bay for other companies, including Richards Bay Minerals and Richards Bay Heavy Metals,” Tenova Mining & Minerals South Africa MD Mike Deeks commented.
