Telecommunications and Postal Services Director General Rosey Sekese has been placed on precautionary suspension for a period of 60 days while the Public Service Commission conducts an independent inquiry into the management affairs of the department.

“The decision is merely a precautionary step and is not a punishment and the Director General will be on full pay during this period,” the department said.

Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, indicated in May that he was attending to the ongoing leadership challenges which were negatively impacting the department’s ability to execute its functions timeously.

This followed concerns raised from individuals and managers of the department about the paralysis within the department.

Minister Cwele has received written representations from Sekese stating reasons why she should not be placed on precautionary suspension.

After considering the reasons and applying his mind, Minister Cwele decided to place the Director General on precautionary suspension.

Minister Cwele has appointed Tinyiko Ngobeni as the Acting Director General until further notice.
