Name of the Project
Tel Aviv Tramway Red Line signalling project.

Location
Tel Aviv, Israel.

Client
NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System.

Project Description
The Red Line plans to serve about 200 000 passengers a day.

The 24-km-long tramway line will pass through the Bat Yam, Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Ramat Gan, Bnei Brak and Petach Tikva municipalities, and will include a 12-km-long tunnel section to be built under the cities of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and Bnei Brak.

The signalling contract includes the development, manufacture, procurement, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, warranty and maintenance of the signalling and train control of the 90 vehicles for the Red Line project.

Potential Job Creation
The project team will include 40 to 50 Israelis who will work from Israel, and dozens more at Alstom’s sites in France, Italy, Turkey, China, Spain and India.

Value
The contract is valued at €90-million.

Duration
The Red Line will begin operations in October 2021.

Latest Developments
NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System and Alstom have signed a contract worth more than €90-million for the signalling project.

The contract includes the control of the trams that will travel along the Red Line, including coordination with the road traffic lights system, as well as the transfer to automatic driving in the tunnels.

Alstom will supply the upgraded Urbalis 400 CBTC system.

Urbalis has flexible and scalable control system architecture, based on the moving-block principle, which safely optimises available rail network capacity, and allows for mixed-mode operation, such as the Red Line combination of tunnels and interface to road traffic, at grade.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
