On 14 September 2016 Atlas Copco Construction Technique handed over a RTEX handheld pneumatic breaker to Dries Fouché and Shaun Sirchia, franchise owners of Talisman Hire in Kya Sand, Johannesburg, which they won in a lucky draw during the Talisman Suppliers Day held in August 2016.

The relationship between Atlas Copco and Talisman Hire was established more than a decade ago and has developed into a successful business partnership. Dries who attributes the good relationship between the two companies to the shared synergies of quality products backed by service excellence, says that it is an absolute pleasure doing business with Atlas Copco. Talisman Hire Kya Sand currently carries the Atlas Copco TEX32 heavy duty pneumatic general demolition breaker which is designed for medium-hard to hard material applications and is also suited for asphalt and concrete breaking.

Atlas Copco Business Line Manager for the Construction Tools Division, Neville Stewart, confirms that this is the fourth year that Construction Technique has supported the annual Talisman Supplier Day through prize sponsorships. “Our prize last year, a 7.5 kVa generator, a new model in the Atlas Copco range, was a popular win for the Parklands franchise in Cape Town and in 2014 we sponsored the equally popular electric submersible pump as the lucky draw prize.”

Dries who was impressed with the performance of the RTEX breaker which Atlas Copco demonstrated on their display during the Talisman Suppliers Day on 18 August, says they had every intention of purchasing breakers sooner rather than later. “Imagine our surprise and delight when we won the lucky draw and a RTEX turned out to be the prize!”

“We are proud to be associated with Talisman Hire,” continues Neville. “As a great Hire company with a sound business philosophy it is so fitting that they are the first hire company to receive the RTEX breaker. They take so much pride in their equipment and they are to be complimented on their spotless, well-organised shop and always properly maintained and well looked after products.”

The responsibility of keeping Talisman Kya Sand ship-shape falls to Shaun. “I always ensure that our products leave the shop in excellent condition and clean as we show pride in our products and want the customers to feel confident to use Talisman Hire for all their equipment hire needs.”

Neville confirms that Atlas Copco’s support of the Talisman Supplier Days has been most successful and says that alongside positive responses it has also led to more business. He expects the RTEX to deliver positive results and reports that an order for 30 tools has already been received from Talisman Hire Kathu.

Dries and Shaun extended a sincere thank you to Neville and his team at Construction Technique - Pamela Finniss (Sales representative Portable Energy), Mark Pedersen (Sales Representative CTD) and Ditumiso Mahlaba (Communications Professional) - for the breaker hand over. “It was a great honour and we feel extremely privileged to have won the RTEX which is the first RTEX breaker in our fleet. We plan to diligently test the performance of the breaker which we have affectionately named T Rex and we will provide Atlas Copco with the necessary and important feedback.”

Atlas Copco’s new RTEX handheld pneumatic breaker rewrites the profitability rulebook. With a breaking performance of top class 30-35 kg breakers using only half as much compressed air and weighing only 25 kg, the tool’s design and its deliverables break the mould, setting world-leading benchmark for pneumatic technological innovation.

The unit’s new and advanced technology in breaking efficiency and ergonomics delivers huge savings and increased profitability. Whilst 25% lighter, the handheld pneumatic breaker reduces energy consumption by 50%. The tool’s record high breaking efficiency is attributed to three innovations; the invention by Atlas Copco engineers in Sweden of a new operating principle known as Constant Pressure Control,  improved energy transfer within the breaker and finally the new RHEX Power Chisel.

More compact than a traditional breaker, the RTEX is easier to work with in constrained areas and gives the operator a more ergonomic working position which leads to less fatigue, improved safety and productivity.

An upgrade from the proven TEX breaker, the new RTEX range also comprises the RTEX Mini and the soon-to-be-released RTEX Maxi. The tool carries a twelve month warranty and is ideally suited to a wide range of applications including demolition, renovation, maintenance work, gardening and landscaping.
