PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Battery materials company Talga has received the environmental permit for its Vittangi battery anode plant in Sweden.

The environmental permit approval follows the granting of the building permits by Luleå municipality, which entered into force on March 24 after receiving no appeals.

“The court’s decision to permit Europe’s first commercial natural graphite anode plant is an exciting milestone for both Talga and the green transition,” said Talga MD Mark Thompson.

“We are thrilled to move to the next stage of project development and to commence groundworks for the construction of the anode plant in Luleå. I am extremely proud of the Talga team for this achievement.”

Vittangi will use 100% renewable electricity to produce an initial 19 500 t/y of green anode for lithium-ion batteries from an integrated mine and anode refinery operation in northern Sweden, over an initial mine life of 24 years.
