SunPower recently donated solar panels to Bottomup and Douglas SEDC, two nonprofit organizations leading social development and education initiatives in South Africa. Bottomup received 18-kilowatts of photovoltaic solar panels to help power its Parkwood Technology Centre, a community education project at Parkwood Primary School in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Aurora Power Solutions will donate the mounting structure, and expects to complete the pro bono installation in February 2017 with SOLA Future Energy, an organization that will also help with system design. SMA Solar Technology South Africa (Pty) Ltd donated the STP17000TL-10 sunny Tri-Power 17 KW Inverter and Sunny Home Manager.

The Douglas SEDC Resource Centre located in Douglas, Northern Cape, has been awarded a 16.8-kilowatt system donation. Design and installation is planned for later this year. Both the Parkwood Technology Centre and Douglas SEDC Resource Centre will operate as solar-powered computer labs, dedicated for the use of school children.
