Civil engineering and construction company Stefanutti Stocks will complete Phase 2A and Phase 2B of the Freedom Park museum in Pretoria by the end of the year, it said on Thursday.

The museum contract, worth about R280-million, also includes the construction of office buildings and parking.

Stefanutti Stocks would hand over the first phase of its work by October, followed by the second phase handover a month later and the remaining buildings in December.

CEO Willie Meyburgh said that the company would also aim to construct the R300-million Phase 2C project, which includes the construction of a dam and a road link to the nearby Voortrekker Monument.

The Freedom Park museum would depict South Africa’s history, including colonialism, the industrial era and the freedom struggle.

The museum is being funded by the Freedom Park Fund, which was recently incorporated into the Department of Arts and Culture.
