PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Soon Mining has temporarily delayed mining preparations at its Konongo gold project, in Ghana, owing to a nationwide investigation into illegal mining activities.

All mining operations in Ghana have been suspended while the investigation is being conducted, with some mining officials being suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Soon told shareholders on Friday that once the temporary nationwide mining suspension had been lifted the company would continue with preparations to start mining at Konongo, and would continue to secure its environmental protection authority approval for the Kwahu Praso project.

The Konongo project comprises 16 known gold deposits situated along the 12 km strike of the Ashanti gold belt of Ghana, covering nearly 192 km2 of the belt area.

Soon is planning to conduct alluvial gold production along both sides of the upstream and downstream of the Subin river.
