Sonic Drilling Ltd  (1.68 MB)

Company Announcement - Canadian engineer, Ray Roussy, recently accepted a fourth award for his development and commercialization of sonic drilling technology.  “I’m delighted to be recognized by the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame,” says Roussy, who is president of the Sonic Drill Corporation and Sonic Drilling Ltd.  “This award is one of the outcomes of nearly four decades of research and development.”

Roussy also recognized his staff in his award acceptance speech saying, “A big thank you to all my employees who traveled the innovation highway with me – no matter where it took us.”  The award ceremonies gala dinner took place in Denver, Colorado.

Roussy, who holds dozens of patents involving sonic drilling technology, is solely responsible for the successful commercialization of it when others failed to make it work.  Roussy’s induction into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame represents another prestigious recognition for his revolutionary technology since 2008.  This latest award was for the exploration category while previous ones were for best new drilling technology, innovation and a technology award.

Today, award-winning sonic drill rigs, patented and built by the Sonic Drill Corporation, are in use on six continents and in every application imaginable.  Sonic drilling technology provides a number of substantial advantages through its incredible speed (3-5x faster) as well as its ability to core easily through mixed soils without jamming up or requiring a rig switch out.  In addition, only a sonic drill can recover a continuous core including boulders, clays, silt, sand and gravel and lay it in its stratigraphic sequence – from the surface all the way down to 300 ft (100 m) and beyond.
