Name and Location
Songololo cement project, Bas Congo province, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Client
PPC.

Project Description
PPC plans to establish a quarry and processing plant capable of producing 1.25-million tons a year of cement.

The plant will produce about 3 600 t/d of cement from 3 000 t/d of clinker.

Limestone, clay and laterite will be mined from an openpit and crushed and mixed with sand to produce clinker, which will be milled with limestone and imported gypsum to produce cement.

The expected life of the mine is 30 years.

A coal-fired kiln will be used to produce clinker.

A 220 kV power line will run about 13 km from the Kwilu substation on the Inga–Kinshasa line to the plant for additional energy needs.

Ground cement will be stored in 7 500 t silos and the processing plant will have the capacity to bulk-load cement for commercial clients and to package and load cement in bags for sale at local retail markets.

Value
