Name and Location
Solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant project, Atacama, Chile.

Client
SunEdison Chile Construction, a subsidiary of Sun Edison.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 50 MW solar PV plant on a 135 ha site in the municipality of Copiapo, in Chile’s Atacama region.

The PV modules will convert sunlight to direct current (dc) electricity. The dc power will be transferred to an inverter to convert the dc into alternating current, which will be fed into the Sistema Interconectado Central.

The project is expected to have capacity of about 130 GWh/y, based on an estimated energy yield of about 2 659 kWh/kWp.

Included in the project is the installation of an estimated 135 m 220 kV transmission line to transport the generated electricity to the 220 kV Carrera Pinto–Cardones main grid transmission line.
