The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) is embarking on a nationwide consultation process to solicit inputs from stakeholders on the review of the National Small Business Act and the National Small Business Amendment Act, as well as engage stakeholders on the proposed national minimum wage.

Consultations were scheduled to take place from January 25 to February 5, covering all the nine provinces.

The Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces would, given their size, have two sessions of two days each.

The remainder of provinces would have a single session. Each session would take place over two days. The first day would be dedicated to the review of the National Small Business Act and the second day would focus on the national minimum wage.

The consultations would culminate in a National Stakeholder Indaba on the review of National Small Business Amendment Act and the national minimum wage, to be held in Gauteng.

The DSBD said the review of the Act was aimed at ensuring that legislation relating to small businesses was developmental in its orientation and that it was in line with the current realities that confront small business.

Among those stakeholders expected to attend were microbusinesses, small businesses, cooperatives enterprises, small business chambers, cooperative associations, cooperative members, academia, nongovernmental organisations supporting cooperatives and small businesses and local and provincial government officials.
