Six new Johannesburg suburbs – Hurlingham, Glenadrienne, Hyde Park, Northcliff, Sharonlea and Olivedale – have thrown their weight behind telecommunications provider Vumatel to provide fibre-to-the-home in their communities.

They would join Saxonwold, Parkwood, Riviera and Killarney, in which Vumatel fibre was currently being installed, as well as Victory Park, Linden, Bryanston South and Blairgowrie, where installations were scheduled to begin in October.

“With these new suburbs, we would have provided services to over 30 000 homes by February next year,” said Vumatel sales director Giorgio Iovino.

Vumatel CEO Niel Schoeman added that the company was currently making its infrastructure available to around 2 000 additional homes a month and was still ramping up delivery.

“We are in discussions with new suburbs every day. Based on demand, we will need to make services available to a further 100 000 homes next year.  This demand has resulted in us making a decision to release new areas on our portal so residents can show their support,” he noted.
