Sasol Group Technology has signed a three-year agreement with US-based engineering and construction firm Fluor Corporation to collaborate on small and mid-sized oil and gas projects at Sasol’s facilities in Secunda and Sasolburg.

Fluor would share its expertise on proprietary engineering and project execution tools and systems with selected Sasol employees through on-the-job participation in conceptual studies to full engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM).

“We are delighted that Sasol has selected Fluor as its partner to execute a range of projects across their facilities,” Fluor Europe, Africa and Middle East energy and chemicals president Taco de Haan said.

He added that the two companies would work to increase capital efficiency across a range of Sasol projects and that the agreement marked the continuation of a successful relationship that has spanned more than half a century.

Fluor’s relationship with Sasol dated back to the award of the first project in Sasolburg in the early 1960s.

In 1975, Fluor was named the managing contractor to provide EPCM services for Sasol II and later for Sasol III, as well as the oil-from-coal complexes. It had since supported various other Sasol projects.
