To further “optimise its top management structure”, JSE-listed Sasol has appointed Bongani Nqwababa its new CFO, while sustainability and human resources portfolio executive director Nolitha Fakude will be directly accountable for the strategy and sustainability portfolio, effective March 1.

Sasol said on Monday that Nqwababa would be directly accountable for the finance portfolio, comprising financial control; corporate finance, business development and portfolio management; investor relations and information management, while Fakude’s new role would comprise strategy, risk and safety, health and environment, and human resources functions.

With the retirement of Sasol strategy, development and planning executive VP Ernst Oberholster and as part of the company’s ongoing drive to enhance its structures and business processes, Sasol had decided not to appoint a new group executive committee (GEC) member to assume responsibility for Oberholster’s portfolio.

Instead, these accountabilities would be reallocated to current members of the GEC.

Further, Fakude would relinquish her South Africa shared services and public and regulatory affairs functions, which would be assumed by other members of the GEC.
