The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (Sapvia) on Wednesday welcomed Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of the success of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

Ramaphosa was addressing delegates at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, this week, with Sapvia acknowledging comments over the potential contribution that the private sector can play in bringing price and cost efficiencies into South Africa's electricity supply industry.

“We believe the innovation shown by the renewable-energy sector . . . will assist in bringing tangible socioeconomic benefits to South African residential, commercial and industrial users going forward,” the association said in a statement.

Sapvia aims to highlight industry successes and innovative ideas to government and municipal stakeholders over the coming weeks and months.
