SAIMM to inaugurate new president

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) will on Thursday welcome Professor Cuthbert Musingwini as its president.

Musingwini, who is currently University of the Witwatersrand School of Mining and Engineering head, started his career as a graduate trainee with Lonrho Zimbabwe’s Independence Gold Mining in 1991.

He currently lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Optimisation in Mine Planning and Mine Financial Evaluation. He also supervises masters and doctoratal research candidates and occasionally examines doctoral theses in mine planning and valuation for the University of Queensland and Curtin University, in Australia.

Musingwini, who is Zimbabwe-born, has served on a number of mining-related boards, including the Engineering Council of South Africa, the Mining TPC and SAIMM’s International Platinum Conference Organising Committee, among others.
