Field development operations at the Lagia oilfield in Sinai, onshore Egypt, have started.

The oilfield, which is operated through dual-listed oil and gas company SacOil’s subsidiary Mena International Petroleum Company, was expected to produce about 350 bbl/d of oil, provided the completion of operations at the Lagia 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 wells was successful.

Mena had contracted oilfield services company Schlumberger Egypt to conduct an initial phase of development, which included the hydraulic stimulation of the wells, specifically targeting the intersected productive Nukhul geological formation.

In addition to the hydraulic stimulation operations, a thermal recovery process was being planned for the first half of this year, which should further enhance oil production and recovery of the reserves from the Lagia oilfield – an area of about 32 km2 on the Sinai Peninsula.

SacOil was also preparing and planning for a second phase of development to start by June, which would include the drilling of up to five additional wells in the oilfield. Further details of this phased development, as well as progress on the current operations, would be announced in due course.
