The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) has appointed former Land and Agricultural Bank head Alan Mukoki as its new CEO, effective August 1.

Mukoki offered several years’ experience at the senior executive level, having occupied directorship positions on the boards of several major private and public entities in South Africa, including enterprise fund Khula Finance, specialist risk finance company Business Partners, Peoples Bank, Land and Agricultural Bank, Nedbank and Denel.

A founding member of Pacific Atlantic Capital and Hloma BCI Investments, he studied banking, strategy, finance and the management of megaprojects at the University of Oxford, in the UK, where he graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy, as well as with a Master of Science.

Mukoki was also a certified associate and fellow of the Institute of Bankers in South Africa and had completed the Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School, in the US.

He was succeeding Neren Rau, who stepped down as Sacci CEO in December.
