SA to host Africa’s first carrier WiFi event

South Africa is set to host the first WiFi Offload Summit Africa on May 8 at Montecasino in Johannesburg.

The summit, which was hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, in January, was expected to attract global carrier WiFi and WiFi offload experts to the country to discuss “the biggest telecoms business opportunities of this decade”.

Event cosponsor engineering group Q-KON CEO Dr Dawie de Wet said in a statement that the latest developments within the global carrier Wi-Fi space would be outlined, with mobile and fixed network operators, telecommunications service providers and business leaders benefitting from insight from recognised experts.

“The programme will include case studies and real-world success stories about how to monetise carrier WiFi, with testimony in the form of strategy explanation and detailed accounts of system integration, development, service management and networks,” he said.

The Gauteng-based company recently announced partnerships with Ruckus Wireless and Aptilo Networks allowing Q-KON to endorse the advantages of technologies and offer the “peace of mind” required by customers deploying new technologies to service new markets.
